Vehicle Emissions Testing

Vehicle Emissions Testing Services

Vehicle emission testing is performed by putting an automobile through a variety of procedures and assessments to determine both fuel efficiency and amount of emissions in the form of greenhouse gases it produces under varying conditions. These procedures can be performed to local regulatory standards or global acceptable emission standards. Depending on the vehicle itself, emission testing methods and procedures may vary.

Testing procedures for vehicle emissions testing can include the overall efficiency of engine performance, testing the catalytic converters (and other emission control devices like particle traps), as well as the way the vehicle system responds to fuels (whether traditional fossil or alternative fuels).

As more places adopt more stringent emission regulations and vehicle quality standards, car emission testing is becoming more and more important for manufacturers and distributors. Ensure that your vehicle is up to date with emission standards with Cross Company vehicle emissions testing.

Car Emissions Tests

Today, more than 30 states have legislated some form of emissions testing. And it would be safe to assume that many states will adopt similar policies in the coming years. With the move towards more sustainable products and the growing prevalence of emission standards, manufacturers can no longer ignore vehicle emissions.

At Cross Company Testing, we’re dedicated to providing our customers with high quality, nearby emission testing for vehicles. This allows our customers to forecast vehicle performance and ensure emission compliance while also meeting the needs of end users. Our ISO 17025 accredited testing facilities in the US and Mexico have the equipment necessary to perform emission test procedures for a range of vehicles based on the needs of our customers.

We can perform car emissions testing services to make sure your product is EPA compliant, that your four-wheel drive capabilities don’t affect average emissions, and that you meet any state or federal emission requirements.

Emission Vehicle Testing for Automotive and Other Industries

While the automotive industry is the primary focus of emissions testing, there are many other applications where emission levels are a concern that need to be addressed. For instance, regulations are in place now requiring certain levels for off-road work vehicles and heavy machinery emissions. New engines for industrial vehicles will need to be tested to ensure emissions compliance.

Vehicle emission standards applicable to vehicles other than standard cars as well. Delivery vehicles, semi-trucks, and other commercial vehicles will also require emissions testing procedures to ensure future compliance.

At Cross, we’ve worked with many different vehicles, vehicle manufacturers, and commercial vehicle distributors to provide accurate, repeatable, and reliable vehicle emission testing services. And we can provide that same high-quality service to your operation, too.

Emission Testing Methods and Standards

Emission testing procedures are performed to gauge the vehicle’s emission levels and ability to track pollutants released by the vehicle. More specifically, emissions testing procedures can track levels of carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), and other particulate matter.

Many vehicles manufactured relatively recently should be able to pass these tests. However, validation of passing is still required for new vehicles. They still must be checked for excessive HC/CO levels, sample dilution failure, OBD failure, and presence of emission control equipment.

We’ll work directly with your vehicle to determine potential areas of failure while also taking into account any relevant standards your vehicle needs to meet. Our vehicle emissions testing procedures are performed in our fully-equipped testing facility to ensure maximum accuracy, and are performed with a quick turnaround time in mind. All with full customer transparency, meaning you know all the procedures being performed and have access to all the results. That’s how we provide outstanding customer service to everyone who works with Cross Company Testing.

Combining Vehicle Emission Testing and Other Procedures

Often, just one testing procedure isn’t enough to accurately predict how a product will behave in the hands of end users or in its intended operating conditions. That’s why we generally recommend combining vehicle emission testing with other test procedures we offer.

This can include other physical testing procedures like vibration testing or flammability testing to simulate other conditions the product may be exposed to. Or it can include environmental testing procedures like thermal shock testing, durability testing, or alternating climate testing. Combining these testing procedures is a reliable means of gathering information and generating predictions for future product behavior.

For a product to have success in the field, it needs to be able to withstand many, many stressors. When you partner with Cross for your testing needs, we’re able to simulate many of the conditions your product will face. We can also devise custom testing procedures based on your product, your industry, and your end user needs.

Did you know… Cross Company is an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan). Our ESOP started in 1979 and as of 2006, we are 100% employee-owned! Learn more about our ESOP and how that benefits both team members and our customers.
Did you know... the precision measurement group at Cross was founded in 1939 by our current CEO's grandfather, Jim King. That's a whole lot of calibration!
Did you know... A fingerprint weighs about 50 micrograms. We know, we weighed it! The residue left from a finger can actually make a difference in weight results which is why we wear gloves when we calibrate weights. For reference, a sheet of paper is about 4.5 grams, that’s 4.5 million micrograms.
