Viscometer Calibration

Viscometer Calibration Services

Viscometers are used to determine the thickness of liquid substances using varying methods of measurement. Models range from U-tube, and falling ball or sphere viscometers where reference marks allow visual determination of viscosity, to rotational viscometers which determine substance thickness based on torque and rotational speed values. Another type of measurement device used is the viscosity cup which measures substances by the rate at which they flow through a known opening size at the bottom of the cup.

Knowing the thickness of a liquid is important for many different industries. This includes manufacturing, food service, scientific test labs, and a variety of others. If you use your viscometer for too long without regular calibration services, the quality of products or industrial processes will begin to deteriorate. This causes problems in both the short and long term. And is something we work with our customers to avoid.

At Cross Precision Measurement, we determine the viscometer calibration procedure that would be best for your equipment and perform it with the fastest turnaround time possible. That way you can be quickly back up and running with a calibrated viscometer you can trust.

Inspection and Calibration for Viscometers

Whichever equipment or model is necessary for measurement, substance viscosity is an important characteristic of materials in several industries with applications such as paint or bonding materials, food and beverage goods, life sciences or laboratory applications, and more.

Cross offers NIST traceable viscosity cup calibration and ISO 17025 accredited viscometer calibration with NIST traceable master standard solution. Our accreditations guarantee traceability, quality, and repeatability. We want to be able to provide all of our clients with calibration services they can trust. And with results that can be repeated with each viscometer calibration. That’s just one of the many things that sets Cross apart.

Substance and Viscosity Measurement Devices

Substance and viscosity measurement equipment need to be working at peak performance in order to meet a variety of regulatory requirements, keep productivity high, and maintain profitability. In fact, incorrectly reading thickness measurement devices can (and do) cause major problems in both the short and long term for operations that rely on accurate flow readings or substance measurement. Whether you’re in municipal services, pharmaceuticals, or manufacturing, if you regularly utilize substance and viscosity measurement equipment, it will require regular calibration.

At Cross Precision Measurement, we offer full-service, ISO 17025 accredited local calibration labs and on-site calibration techs using NIST traceable equipment. That means we’re able to calibrate your substance viscosity measurement devices or instrumentation with traceable and reliable accuracy. No matter the type of viscometer your operation uses, our lab calibration services for flow measurement ensures that your industrial tools, equipment, or instrumentation is calibrated to recognized standards.

Whenever we perform calibration services for flow instruments such as viscometers, we also always provide extensive documentation. That includes the calibration procedure, how we found the device, how we left the device, and recommendations for when the device would be up for recalibration. That way all of our clients have the documentation they need for a calibration audit, internal quality check, or inspection from a regulatory body.

Cross specializes in a wide range of calibration services for substance and flow devices. We’ve worked with countless forms of flow equipment and our technicians have the knowledge and experience to bring our customers the world-class precision measurement services they deserve.

When it comes to laboratory or in-line viscometers, the question of frequency of calibration frequently arises. Unfortunately, there is no set-in-stone answer. How frequently you should get your viscometer calibrated depends on how important the measurements are to the rest of a process as well as the type of viscometer in use. In practice, this can mean anywhere from once a year to several times per year. That’s why it’s so helpful to work with an experienced viscometer calibration company like Cross. We can work directly with you to determine a calibration schedule for viscometers and any other flow measurement devices your operation uses.

With our modern, fully-equipped calibration laboratories, on-site calibration techs, and embedded services, Cross Precision Measurement is ready to be your nearby viscometer calibration company. But that’s not all we want to be. We aim to be a single-source provider for our customers. That means providing the services, products, and support they need to succeed.

Did you know… Cross Company is an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan). Our ESOP started in 1979 and as of 2006, we are 100% employee-owned! Learn more about our ESOP and how that benefits both team members and our customers.
Did you know... the precision measurement group at Cross was founded in 1939 by our current CEO's grandfather, Jim King. That's a whole lot of calibration!
Did you know... A fingerprint weighs about 50 micrograms. We know, we weighed it! The residue left from a finger can actually make a difference in weight results which is why we wear gloves when we calibrate weights. For reference, a sheet of paper is about 4.5 grams, that’s 4.5 million micrograms.
