Magnetostrictive Level Management

Cross Company Magnetostrictive Level Measurement

Magnetostrictive level transmitters are used regularly to provide continuous level indication. They can be used alongside a magnetic level gauge chamber or even inserted directly into the process media. That means they can be a flexible option for your process application.

Magnetostrictive level transmitter waveguide technology offers accurate, rapid, and repeatable level indication and is not greatly affected by changes in temperature or humidity. They are rugged units with a long operating life. Direct insertion versions can also be used to measure the interface between two liquids.

If you’re looking for a magnetostrictive level transmitter for precise process level measurement applications, you’ve come to the right place. At Cross Company Process Solutions, we work directly with all of our customers to ensure they’re getting the best level measurement equipment available for their process application. And we can provide that same service for you, too. Contact one of our experts today to get the magnetostrictive level measurement equipment you need.

Enhancing Efficiency in Level Measurement

Within process industries, accurate level measurement is a critical consideration. Being able to accurately measure and monitor liquid levels is necessary for maintaining operational efficiency, product quality, and overall safety. And without reliable measurement equipment, efficiency, quality, or safety could be at risk.

These transmitters operate based on the “time-of-flight” principle. Essentially, a current pulse is sent down a magnetostrictive wire. This creates a magnetic field around it. And when that field interacts with a float’s magnetic ring, stress is induced in the wire sure to magnetostrictive effects. The stress generates a wave that travels along the wire. The time it takes this wave to travel to the float and back is used to calculate the precise liquid level in a particular vessel.

These non-contact and continuous level measurement solutions are ideal for a wide range of industrial and process applications.

Benefits of Magnetostrictive Level Measurement

There are many benefits to using magnetostrictive level transmitters in your process or industrial application. Some of those benefits include

High Accuracy

Their ability to provide accurate measurements down to the millimeter-level ensures the precise measurement and monitoring of liquid levels. This is critical in industries where even slight discrepancies can lead to costly errors.

Non-Contact Operation

The absence of physical contact with the liquid eliminates concerns of contamination, corrosion, or interference with the process. This is particularly advantageous when dealing with volatile or hazardous substances in your application.

Easy Integration

Magnetostrictive level transmitters are relatively simple to install and integrate into existing systems or controls. This minimizes the potential disruptions associated with integrating new components and ensures smooth operation.

Magnetostrictive Level Transmitter Applications

There are many potential applications across a wide range of industries for magnetostrictive level transmitters. Some of these level measurement applications include

Oil and gas industry – Magnetostrictive level transmitters are able to accurately monitor levels of crude oil, refined products, and the chemicals in storage tanks. In oil and gas separators, these transmitters provide real-time data on the interface between oil, water, and gas phases, enabling optimal separation and efficient production.

Chemical processing – Accurate and precise level measurement for reactors and vessels ensures proper mixing, prevents overflows, and maintains consistent reaction conditions. Further, accurate monitoring of storage and blending tanks increases batch consistency and prevents cross-contamination.

Water and wastewater treatment – Magnetostrictive level transmitters help control the settling process in clarifiers, optimizing solid-liquid separation and improving water treatment efficiency.

Pharmaceutical – These transmitters are able to provide reliable level data for buffer tanks and help maintain precise concentration levels during drug manufacturing

Did you know… Cross Company is an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan). Our ESOP started in 1979 and as of 2006, we are 100% employee-owned! Learn more about our ESOP and how that benefits both team members and our customers.
Did you know... the precision measurement group at Cross was founded in 1939 by our current CEO's grandfather, Jim King. That's a whole lot of calibration!
Did you know... A fingerprint weighs about 50 micrograms. We know, we weighed it! The residue left from a finger can actually make a difference in weight results which is why we wear gloves when we calibrate weights. For reference, a sheet of paper is about 4.5 grams, that’s 4.5 million micrograms.
Did you know… Cross Company has grown significantly since our start in 1954. Over the years we've acquired 26 companies! Today, our five groups have expertise in everything from industrial automation to precision measurement, and industry knowledge going all the way back to 1939.
