Vortex Flow Meters

Cross Company Vortex Flow Meters

Vortex Flow Meters can be used for metering, measuring and control of gas, liquids, vapors and steam. They operate on the principle of vortex shedding, where a bluff body or shredder bar is placed in the flow. This forms vortices which oscillate at a frequency that is directly proportional to the velocity of the liquid in the pipe. Sensors detect these oscillations and convert them into an electronic signal.

Vortex flow meters have simple structures, with no moving parts, so they are extremely reliable with high accuracy and a low failure rate. Cost of ownership is also low, both initially and in terms of ongoing maintenance.

However, vortex meters are not recommended for batching or other intermittent flow applications. They also should not be used with low pressure gases or with process media that can build up, like sludges or slurries.

If you’re looking for a vortex flow meter from leading manufacturers, Cross Company Process Solutions can help. Our flow measurement and process instrumentation experts can work with you directly to ensure you’re getting the flow meter you need for your application.
