Chamfer Gage Calibration

Chamfer Gage Calibration Services

Chamfer gauges and countersink gauges are frequently used to measure the top diameter of tapered bore when machining parts. Both typically function by utilizing a plunger mechanism which is connected to a digital or analog gauge readout. As the plunger recesses into the gauge when pressed into the bore, it measures the upper bore dimension and in the case of countersink gages, the form of the taper can be determined as well.

Some of the key differences between the two types, are that chamfer gauges typically utilize a three blade or three point plunger, whereas a countersink gauge features a solid conical plunger. This solid cone can also act as a secondary reference, allowing the user to determine the form of the entire taper rather than just the inside diameter at the top of the bore.

While this is an excellent feature, countersink gauges also have a much smaller or specific range which requires a greater number of gauges for reference. Unlike chamfer gauges, due to their smaller range they also require a master set ring for zero. Since chamfer gauges usually have a wider range with a secondary revolution counter, they can typically be set or “zeroed” on any flat surface.

When it comes to calibrating chamfer gages, Cross Precision Measurement has the calibration experience, NIST traceable standards, and expert calibration technicians required to provide you with the calibration services your operation needs.

Calibration and Gage Accuracy

Anyone working with industrial manufacturing equipment or other precision machinery knows the importance of calibration. Well calibrated machinery or instrumentation reduces unplanned downtime, unexpected performance drops, and quality control issues. When equipment is properly calibrated, it becomes a well-oiled machine, capable of meeting production demands.

Don’t let productivity slip due to out-of-date calibrations. At Cross, we’ll work directly with you to determine your calibration schedule and needs. That way, you know you’re covered for any potential audits and are able to perform as predicted.

Cross offers NIST traceable chamfer gage calibration and countersink gage calibration with master standard ring gauges, gage blocks, and surface plates. Our technicians take a minimum of five measurements over the range of the instrument which we can provide on a certificate of calibration. In addition, with Cross, your quality team can access these certificates 24/7 using GageSuite®, our online calibration certificate tracking system.

Reliable Calibration Services

The precision measurement group at Cross offers NIST traceable calibration for all types of mechanical and electrical measurement devices, from calipers to inclinometers. Our technicians utilize master standards such as surface plates, angle blocks, and sine bars, among others, to perform a comprehensive calibration including readings at a minimum of four test points.

In addition, our team can provide as found, as left readings on a certificate of calibration which your quality team can access 24/7 using GageSuite®, our online calibration certificate tracking system.

When it comes to calibration services for manufacturers and others within the industrial world, the two most important considerations are accuracy and consistency. At Cross Precision Measurement, we strive to provide the highest degree of accuracy in calibrations every single time. That way, you can trust that your instrumentation or equipment has been precisely calibrated time and time again.

Did you know… Cross Company is an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan). Our ESOP started in 1979 and as of 2006, we are 100% employee-owned! Learn more about our ESOP and how that benefits both team members and our customers.
Did you know... the precision measurement group at Cross was founded in 1939 by our current CEO's grandfather, Jim King. That's a whole lot of calibration!
Did you know... A fingerprint weighs about 50 micrograms. We know, we weighed it! The residue left from a finger can actually make a difference in weight results which is why we wear gloves when we calibrate weights. For reference, a sheet of paper is about 4.5 grams, that’s 4.5 million micrograms.
Did you know… Cross Company has grown significantly since our start in 1954. Over the years we've acquired 26 companies! Today, our five groups have expertise in everything from industrial automation to precision measurement, and industry knowledge going all the way back to 1939.
