Application Note: Process Equipment for Automotive Paint & Coatings Manufacturer

Cross Helps Automotive Paint & Coatings Manufacturer with Process Equipment for New Plant

Project overview:

An engineering firm tasked with the design of a new automotive paint and coatings manufacturing facility in Tennessee reached out to Cross for a quote on a number of valves. The experienced team at Cross Process Solutions was able to assist this firm by specifying all of the automated on/off valves, control valves, tank farm pressure/vacuum relief valves, flame arrestors, and rupture discs required for new construction. In the end, Cross won the bid for over $1 million in process equipment in the new facility.

Why Cross Company?

Cross was awarded the job for several key reasons. First, the Cross staff has extensive expertise and knowledge in process valve applications. The team was able to help the engineering firm identify specification options for valves based on both application parameters known and past experiences in the coatings market. For instance, the Cross Application Specialist pointed out that because the valves were being used in a paint process, they needed to be oil and grease free for a clean service operation. Second, the Cross team was able to come to the site and troubleshoot various in-field issues, such as re-orienting actuators that needed to be adjusted for new construction piping and also installing and adjusting limit switches on various valve assemblies. Finally, Cross was able to deliver hundreds of automated valve assemblies ahead of schedule and within the construction contractor’s timeline. Delivery of these valve services was critical for plant start-up. Despite rampant supply chain issues, the team at Cross worked with their broad portfolio of brands to source the right valves for an aggressive but efficient delivery schedule. The Cross valve center of excellence in Knoxville had parts in stock to build valves on demand, and when needed.

The Solution:

Long term, the Cross team will be able to support the engineering firm and the final customer with replacement parts and repair needs. In fact, the plant is already adding a new paint line and Cross is working with the engineering firm to spec out all the needed valves and pressure management equipment. Whether you are building a new facility and need help specifying process and safety equipment or you are a maintenance manager and need repair and replacement help, Cross Process Solutions is here for you!
