Customer Review: Cross Automation Group - Gastonia, NC
Larry Sedley went above and beyond to support DuPont in the startup and troubleshooting of the new Cross piddler controller installed on our Spin Machine 4 piddler earlier this week.
Sunday evening, there was a wrap-back incident that may or may not have been related to the new piddler controller. At the time of the incident, an electrician was called to investigate the new piddler controller. During this investigation, the electrician manually adjusted the prox sensors on the new East-West piddler actuator. The result of this action was that the piddler chute could not travel its full path in the East-West without hitting the prox sensor “hard stop,” causing the pattern to reset repetitively. Larry was called Monday morning to assist with the issue. He came in Monday morning, diagnosed the prox sensor relocation as the reason the piddler could not complete its path, and assisted Ops and Maintenance in resetting it correctly. SM4 was deemed ready to start back up and the Larry departed from the site around 1 PM.
However, after Larry departed, mechanics performed additional work on the piddler platform that caused the prox sensors to move again. Larry was not able to come back on site due to personal commitments, but guided the team to reset the prox sensors over the phone so that the machine could be started up overnight. (I am very appreciative that Larry took many calls from me and other DuPont folks while he was helping his son move!) Throughout this process, Operations and Maintenance provided questions and feedback to the on the control program. Larry rearranged his calendar to come on site Tuesday to address these items and answer questions about the program.
We are looking forward to working with Larry to commissioning the piddler controllers on our Spin Machine 2 and Spin Machine 3. Thank you!
