J.A. King delivers scale to weigh huge vegetables at Dixie Classic Fair.

(September 27, 2011) Today, precision measurement company J. A. King delivered a large scale to the grounds of the Dixie Classic Fair in Winston-Salem. The device will be used to weigh vegetables and fruit in some of the lively competitions that will be held at the Fair.

“I look forward to this every year,” said J. A. King technician Melvin Stone, who calibrated and certified the scale. “It’s one of the more interesting projects I get to work on.”

In 2009, Mr. Stone was present at the competition for largest pumpkin. At that event, he certified the winning pumpkin, which came in at a whopping 1,258 pounds. That gargantuan specimen went on to break the state record.

This year, pumpkin growers will again compete. The scale will also be used to weigh other outsize vegetables and fruits, from sweet potatoes to watermelons. Mr. Stone will assure the accuracy of the scale throughout its period of service.

“A giant vegetable is unusual, but in many respects we approach this task just like any other job we do,” says CEO John E. King. “All our customers count on us for integrity and professionalism, which we are proud to deliver. That’s why the Dixie Classic Fair keeps asking us to return.”

The Weigh-Tronix scale will be used for the duration of the fair, which runs from Friday, September 30th through Sunday, October 9th. If you’d like to see the scale in action, check the Fair’s website for competitions schedules (www.dcfair.com).
