Dräger Safety: Introduction to Gas Detection

With Flying Colors

The secret to any company’s longevity is simple: a good product. At over 125 years old, Dräger Safety is a prime example of this truism. Since the 1930s, the company has led the way in gas detection with sensitive devices and instruments that detect and measure a myriad of gaseous pollutants in the workplace. Its signature technology? Colorimetric analysis using Dräger Tubes, Accuro & X-act 5000 Pumps.

But like any good company, Dräger is not content to rest on its laurels. Keeping in step with the times, it has improved on technology with each passing decade, so that by the 1990s Chip Measurement System (CMS) was added to the tried-and-true Dräger Tube method. Compared to the 1930s, when cut-offs for chemical concentrations in the workplace were extremely high, today they fall into the parts-per-billion range. And the evolution of gas detection technology continues, as new products join the individual Dräger Tubes System. With them is a new dictionary of synonyms to find just the right device to fit your workplace needs.  Taking into account, last year’s changes to cut-off data, Dräger has added important substances to tables of physicochemical and toxicological data. With the goal of workplace safety, learning about these updates is well worth the time and effort.
