Groth Flame Arresters and Detonation Arresters

Product Overview

Flame arresters are fire safety devices mounted to connecting pipelines or storage vessels which allow media flow but inhibit flame propagation and transmission.   Quenching the flame protects the storage tank, processing equipment, instrumentation and most importantly personnel from catastrophic damage during an uncontrolled ignition event.

Groth offers a full range of deflagration flame arresters as well as detonation arresters which are suitable for both stable and unstable detonations.

Design features of Groth deflagration flame arresters and detonation arresters:

  • Flame element: Made of small parallel passageways that are aligned together to reduce and quench an approaching flame front
  • Housing: Provides the outer structure to position and hold the winding element. Within the housing, the element is supported by rigid beams or grids welded to each end to contain the element winding
  • Seating: Has a counter-bore/pocket design which provides centerline positioning to seat the assembly to the base flanges.  Two non-asbestos gaskets form the seal, one at each end.
  • Base component: Located on each end of the flame arrester, the base components provide connection of the assembly to the pipeline or tank equipment.  Vertical installations typically use a concentric design whereas horizontal mountings typically use eccentric designs.
  • Instrumentation port: All arresters are manufactured with a minimum of one thermowell to contact the face of the element

Did you know… Cross Company is an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan). Our ESOP started in 1979 and as of 2006, we are 100% employee-owned! Learn more about our ESOP and how that benefits both team members and our customers.
Did you know... the precision measurement group at Cross was founded in 1939 by our current CEO's grandfather, Jim King. That's a whole lot of calibration!
Did you know... A fingerprint weighs about 50 micrograms. We know, we weighed it! The residue left from a finger can actually make a difference in weight results which is why we wear gloves when we calibrate weights. For reference, a sheet of paper is about 4.5 grams, that’s 4.5 million micrograms.
Did you know… Cross Company has grown significantly since our start in 1954. Over the years we've acquired 26 companies! Today, our five groups have expertise in everything from industrial automation to precision measurement, and industry knowledge going all the way back to 1939.
