Gantries

Cartesian Gantry Robots

Gantries are often referred to as traditional robots or cartesian robots, because they move on a cartesian X, Y, & Z coordinate system. They can range from very small in size to 20 feet plus. The two types of gantries are screw-driven and belt-driven. While belt-driven actuators can move very quickly, they are not as accurate and do not provide as much force as screw-driven actuators. Deciding which type of linear actuator to use will depend on the needs of your specific application.

Gantries offer tremendous flexibility in size, payload, and reach In addition, when considering automation, gantries are often more affordable and last longer than a robot arm. However, gantries are relatively permanent installations as they require extensive safety guarding.

If you’re looking for a gantry for your robotic system, Cross can help. We want to make sure any automation installations within your operation are both safe and efficient.

Gantry Systems for Your Industry

Utilized in almost every industry, you will find gantry systems used in applications for life sciences, food & beverage, automotive, consumer products, just to name a few. Some great applications include picking and placing, DNA sampling, and conveyor belt transfers.

While we offer off the shelf linear actuators, motors, gearboxes, drives, and control systems for customers who want to assemble their own gantries. Our engineers can also assemble a complete turnkey system for your application. If you have a PLC, we can build and program the gantry so it will literally be plug and play in your facility.

If you happen to have aging gantries, we can help you keep those functioning. Overtime finding the correct replacement parts can become a challenge. Our experts are great at retrofitting parts into existing systems. In fact, if we cannot find the parts needed for your system we can manufacture custom gantry components.

Benefits of Gantry Robots

There are a number of benefits to using industrial gantry robots over other types of industrial robotic applications. Some of these include:

Accuracy

Gantry robots are extremely accurate and are extremely useful in applications where precision is required

Speed

Gantry robots are also extremely fast, meaning they can be ideal for applications where speed is a benefit

High Payloads

Gantry robots are capable of lifting, carrying, and positioning heavy payloads, making them ideal for material handling applications

Versatility

Gantry robots are customizable and flexible, meaning that they can be integrated into many different industrial applications

Reliability

Gantry robots are frequently very durable, so they can work in demanding environments while maintaining a long lifespan

Customization

Gantry robots are able to be customized to your specific production process and industrial environment

Gantry Robot Features

There are many applications for gantries across the industrial and commercial manufacturing worlds. Some of these applications are:

  • Material Handling
  • Assembly
  • Welding
  • Painting
  • Packaging
  • Inspection

In short, gantries are a valuable investment that can result in a relatively rapid ROI for your operation. They are typically custom-built to meet the specific needs or requirements of the application. That means from square one they’re designed to work with your unique manufacturing process.
