Variable Speed Drives
Variable speed drives (VSDs) operate by controlling the energy glow from the mains to the process, situated between the electrical supply and the motor itself. Within the drive itself, input power is converted from AC power to DC power, where it is then fed into the drive’s capacitors. This applies smooth, clean power for the operations of the drive, changing the DC power back to output AC for the motor. This functionality allows adjustments to both the frequency and voltage running to the motor. This allows you to change the speed of AC motors based on demand, saving your operation money over time. This level of control also reduces the overall cost of maintenance, production waste, and noise emissions.
Close to 70% of electrical energy in industrial applications goes to powering electric motors. With these motors acting as the powerhouse of the operation, they power compressors, conveyors, pumps, and much more. That’s why it’s so critical to have the right drives for your production process. By using the wrong drives for your application, you could be wasting time, money, and productivity.
