Antenna Position Control System

Cross Automated Antenna Position Control System

The antenna position control system from Cross offers a key example of how our Device Under Test Positioning System can be utilized for specific applications. Antenna positioning or pointing systems require precision control to reliably and accurately hit, or track, their intended target.

The motion control experts at Cross Company have streamlined this application by designing a standard but configurable Antenna Position Control System using industrial grade controls and mechanics. The electromechanical system includes a base X axis to provide linear travel and an azimuth, or tilt, axis for angular adjustments.

Improve Control, Repeatability, and Flexibility

Manual control systems can be cumbersome to set up, have a limited range of motion, and frequently lack the level of repeatability and control needed for complex systems. Manually adjusted lock-in-place systems can be incredibly labor-intensive and may only offer fixed angular positions or pre-set choices. At Cross, we can work with you to implement a coordinated motion control system for antenna positioning that can provide a wider range of control and flexibility.

Our motion control experts have streamlined antenna positioning control systems by designing a standard but configurable position control system utilizing controls and mechanics from industry-leading manufacturers. This system includes a base X-axis for linear travel and an azimuth or tilt axis for angular adjustments.

The X-axis incorporates a dual-axis belt-driven actuator system connected via a linkshaft. The tilt axis utilizes a rod-style ballscrew actuator with the rod end fixed to the underside of the antenna mounting plate. Both axes are driven by stepper motors. The entire system is interconnected using custom mounting plates that enable the tilt axis to ride on the carriages of the X-axis. This two-axis system offers the flexibility to move an antenna to any position along a single linear axis while achieving the desired azimuth position on the tilt axis.
