FMS & MMS Single Column Motorized Test Stand

Starrett FMS and MMS Series test frames offer a compact solution for testing mechanical properties of components in a single column system. While both frames share a high-stiffness, granite-base chassis, they are tailored to specific analytical needs. The FMS (Force Measurement System) is optimized for load and distance analysis, while the MMS (Material Measurement System) provides the advanced strain-measurement capabilities required for determining Young’s Modulus and stress-strain curves.

Engineered for the lab but rugged enough for the production floor, these stands feature high-resolution encoders and superior speed control. By moving beyond basic force gages to a fully integrated workstation, users can achieve the level of data integrity required by ASTM and ISO standards while significantly reducing the time required for complex test setups.

Features and Benefits

Superior Frame Stiffness: Built with an all-metal column and a heavy granite base to minimize deflection, ensuring that your data reflects the specimen’s properties, not the machine’s.

Precision Motion Control: Features a high-resolution encoder and pre-loaded ball screws that provide exceptional position accuracy (better than 20µm), improving quality in sensitive testing.

Versatile Software Integration: Fully compatible with L2 Plus and L3 software, allowing for advanced graphical analysis, tolerance limits, and automated “Pass/Fail” results.

Broad Application Range: Ideal for tension, compression, flexural, shear, and cyclic testing across industries like medical device manufacturing and aerospace.

Enhanced Data Integrity: Sampling rates up to 2000Hz ensure even the most rapid break or peak force is captured accurately, lowering risk in critical component validation.

Scalable Testing Heights: Available in three different heights with vertical test spaces up to 49.5″ (1257mm) to accommodate high-elongation materials like elastomers and plastics.

Efficient Throughput: Programmable test methods allow operators to execute complex, multi-stage tests with a single touch, raising efficiency in high-volume environments.

Specifications

Load Capacities: Available in 500N, 1000N, 2500N, and 5000N (up to 1,124 lbf).

Speed Range: Precise control from 0.001 to 60 in/min (0.02 to 1525 mm/min).

Position Accuracy: ±0.001 inch (±20 µm).

Vertical Travel: Options for 22″, 37.5″, and 49.5″ of vertical test space.

Data Sampling Rate: 1Hz to 2000Hz (depending on software configuration).

Load Cell Compatibility: Uses Starrett MLC, ULC, or FLC IEEE 1451.4 compliant sensors.

Extensometer Support: MMS models support dual-channel connections for strain measurement (L3 software required).

Did you know… Cross Company is an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan). Our ESOP started in 1979 and as of 2006, we are 100% employee-owned! Learn more about our ESOP and how that benefits both team members and our customers.
Did you know... the precision measurement group at Cross was founded in 1939 by our current CEO's grandfather, Jim King. That's a whole lot of calibration!
Did you know... A fingerprint weighs about 50 micrograms. We know, we weighed it! The residue left from a finger can actually make a difference in weight results which is why we wear gloves when we calibrate weights. For reference, a sheet of paper is about 4.5 grams, that’s 4.5 million micrograms.
Did you know… Cross Company has grown significantly since our start in 1954. Over the years we've acquired 26 companies! Today, our five groups have expertise in everything from industrial automation to precision measurement, and industry knowledge going all the way back to 1939.
