Best Practice in Valve Automation
Valve automation improves safety and efficiency by allowing the remote operation of valves in the field. But wanting to automate your valve and actually doing it are two different things!
Cross Process Solutions’ Ronnie Moore has decades of experience with valves and tying them into control systems. In this four part video series, Ronnie gives you a step-by-step guide to the things to consider when automating your valves from the types of valves to controllers and remote access.
- Part One: What is valve actuation and why would you want to use it?
- Part Two: Tips for installing your actuator
- Part Three: Installing a valve controller
- Part Four: Installing a wireless link for remote access
Improve your efficiency and reduce risk with valves which can be operated remotely. The experts at Cross Process Solutions are here to help!
Get Ready For Lightning Season!
Warmer weather signals the run up to lightning season, so now is the time to make sure your rail and truck scales are prepared. A single lightning strike, or one nearby, can short out the load cells, wires, junction boxes and accessories on your heavy capacity scale. And, let’s face it, with today’s increasingly unpredictable weather, it’s not IF there’s a lightning strike, it’s when.
Since your scale is likely the heart of your operation, either inbound or outbound, it’s important to make sure you’re ready for the worst weather or you may face downtime or lost revenue if something happens. Remember, it only takes one strike to take down your entire scale system.
What's New at Cross
New Flow Meter Partner: AW-Lake
Cross Process Solutions is excited to announce our new partnership with AW-Lake for flow instrumentation. In the complex and dynamic world of the pulp and paper industry, precise measurement and control of various processes are paramount to ensuring efficiency, quality, and sustainability. AW-Lake’s flow monitoring systems can stand as essential tools in the optimization of processes, resource management, and overall operational efficiency.
Whether it’s monitoring water usage, or measuring accurate amounts of applied chemicals like bleach and color, AW-Lake’s line of Coriolis, paddlewheel, gear and turbine and variable area meters are ideal for achieving for maintaining product quality, minimizing waste, and adhering to environmental regulations.
Parker ToughShield Plus for Corrosion Resistant Hydraulic Fittings
The pulp and paper industry relies on hydraulic power to control the flow of pulp and chemicals through the plant and to power the machinery which transforms them. But the caustic or corrosive materials within a plant quickly cause corrosion on traditional hydraulic fittings.
Metallurgists at Parker have developed ToughShield Plus, a unique, patent-pending zinc nickel plating for steel tube fittings and adapters. It offers significantly more corrosion resistance, meaning less frequent and easier maintenance, extended fitting service life, and increased resistance to the migration of rust to adjacent components.
M4Knick K25 Conductivity Monitor for Liquor Monitoring
Conductivity levels are used for liquor monitoring throughout the Kraft process, helping operators to right-size the amount of chemicals used. However, with highly alkaline and potentially corrosive media within the process, operators also want to reduce spills or leaks when taking measurements.
It’s also crucial not to cross-contaminate the liquors so the integrity of each is maintained. And finally, the readings are all done in a high temperature process prone to aggressive media build up. Unsurprisingly, many sensors have issues with durability, accuracy and lifespan.
Cross partner M4Knick has introduced their K25 conductivity sensor specifically designed for heavily polluted and fibrous media. The sensor has a large measuring range of 0 … 1,000 mS/cm and its four electrodes allow for less susceptibility to polarization, ensuring consistent, accurate measurements in aggressive processes like liquor monitoring.
Cross Provides Tangible Value for You
Improve Efficiency
Do you have hydraulic equipment in your plant which is experiencing short filter life or too frequent oil changes? Electrostatic discharge could be affecting your hydraulic filters.
Cross partner Schroeder Industries recently worked with a paper mill which had a hydraulic shoe press which was hearing banging noises and having short filter lives. By switching to Schroeders’s ASP® AntiStat Pleat Elements, the customer saved $12.5k in filter costs, extended filter life by five months and improved their annual hydraulic oil usage by 31.7k gallons.
