Christy's Story:

Born and raised in Burlington, NC, Christy’s career path resembles more of a winding road than a straight trajectory. After high school, Christy enrolled at Appalachian State University with aspirations of pursuing a computer science major. Despite occasional thoughts of returning to school, the responsibilities of parenthood and work commitments kept Christy firmly entrenched in hospitality management. Eventually, she reached a tipping point and decided to pursue higher education once more, attending GTCC for an associate’s degree in Mechatronics. This period also afforded Christy the opportunity to intern at Gateway Materials Testing Center, an experience she found both enlightening and engaging.

Upon graduation, Christy’s journey led her to Cross, where a combination of factors such as working hours, pay, and location initially drew her in. However, it was the company’s ethos, particularly its employee stock ownership plan (ESOP), and the positive impression she got from Alex during her initial conversation that sealed the deal for her.

Transitioning to Cross as an Integration Technician from the hospitality industry marked a stark contrast in workplace culture, with the former offering a refreshing change from the toxic environment Christy had grown accustomed to.

“I felt like I had escaped an abusive relationship and found a supportive and nurturing work environment.”

Culture holds significant importance to Christy, and she is pleased to say that Cross has exceeded her expectations in this regard. The camaraderie among colleagues and the management team’s efforts to foster an inclusive and respectful atmosphere have made her time here immensely enjoyable.

Her manager, Mr. Roger Haight, had nothing but positive things to say about Christy’s journey.

“Christy is a pleasure to work with, always professional. She is very knowledgeable at her job, and the company depends on her. She never hesitates to take on new work even when she is not familiar with it. She is always willing to help out other groups if they have questions.”

Reflecting on her experience at Cross thus far, Christy is grateful for the opportunities for growth and learning that the company has provided. As for the future, she remains open to possibilities, eager to continue honing her skills in the field.

On a lighter note, Christy possesses the unique ability to wiggle her ears, and while she may not be a fervent sports enthusiast, she has a soft spot for the Minnesota Vikings, a nod to her grandfather’s fondness for the team. When it comes to music, her heart lies with the melodies of Broadway and Disney musicals, making it challenging for her to pick a favorite musician or group.
