Overview

Application Spotlight: Juice Production - Monitoring sugar concentration during production 1 Application:
Automated sugar monitoring system to monitor sugar concentrations during production.

Challenges:
Previously, this juice manufacturer would only measure sugar concentration by weighing final product at the end of the production process, several steps after the sugar extraction process.  This meant no corrective action could be taken to improve process efficiency.

Solution: Application Spotlight: Juice Production - Monitoring sugar concentration during production 2
To improve yield and ensure greater final product consistency, the proposed solution was an automated process that monitored Brix during, not after, the production cycle.  Using a TRICOR Coriolis Model TCMP Mass Flow Meter and a TCD 9100 transmitter with a display that calculates sugar concentrations during production, providing real-time feedback to operators.

Result:
Advantages of the new system include automating the Brix monitoring process, elminating the need for manual sampling and weighing the finished product for quality control.  The process also decreased energy usage by reducing demand on the dryer as higher amounts of solids in the process concentrates required less water.
