Streamline Efficiency, Compliance, and Safety in Steam and Chiller Plants

Resources

At Cross Company’s Process Solutions Group, we specialize in delivering complete industrial solutions tailored to the unique needs of steam and chiller plants. We’ve partnered with a wide range of operations across the Southeast to enhance operational efficiency, ensure compliance, and optimize performance across all parts of plant or facility operations.

Optimization for steam or chiller plants essentially means that the equipment associated with operation needs to work as efficiently as possible and consume the least amount of energy possible while being able to meet the needs of the building. With this in mind, there are many levels of optimization possible based on the needs of the specific steam/chiller operation. At Cross, we understand that there’s not typically a one-size-fits-all solution for these facilities. That’s why we offer a range of products, services, and solutions to ensure full optimization.

Whether for a college campus or a manufacturing facility, Cross PSG has a broad offering for steam and chiller plants. This includes valves and valve services, flow measurement, temperature and pressure management, compliance and safety, control systems, and much more.

Valve and Valve Services

Streamline Efficiency, Compliance, and Safety in Steam and Chiller Plants 1Our chiller and steam plant offering includes a wide selection of valves and valve services. We appreciate the critical nature of functional valves in optimal system performance, so we ensure yours are in good working order. Our extensive inventory of valves (including ball valves, butterfly valves, control valves, actuators, solenoids, limit switches, and digital valve positioners) allows us to assist customers in maximizing cycle life while minimizing unplanned downtime.

As a certified GROTH assembler, we offer both new valve installations and repair services in addition to valve automation. This process automation is designed to enhance operational efficiency and safety by enabling remote operation and reducing manual intervention. For instance, automating the valve operations in a university’s steam plant to improve safety and reduce the need for manual labor.

Flow Measurement Solutions

Streamline Efficiency, Compliance, and Safety in Steam and Chiller Plants 2 Accurate flow measurement is another critical component in a streamlined steam or chiller operation. At Cross, we partner with industry-leading manufacturers to provide the best flow measurement instrumentation for the needs of your facility. We can even provide non-invasive, ultrasonic models that reduce maintenance needs without sacrificing accuracy.

Whether you need to manage steam flow or monitor equipment performance, our solutions can provide tangible value to your facility. We can provide solutions to help manage steam flow and monitor equipment performance, delivering tangible value to your facility.

As a practical example, we’ve worked with sizable chiller and steam plants to utilize flow meters to ensure consistent flow for full-campus cooling systems.

Temperature and Pressure Management

Streamline Efficiency, Compliance, and Safety in Steam and Chiller Plants 3 For rupture disc, tank vent, or tank blanketing applications, Cross Company is able to provide solutions from industry-leading manufacturers. We offer a range of products for pressure and temperature management such as flame and detonation arrestors, pilot-operated relief valves, rupture discs, and safety relief valves. Our wide offering allows us to be a single-source for much of the equipment needed by industrial-scale steam or chiller operations.

For some plants, being that single-source solution means replacing old components. For others it may mean optimizing full systems for compliance. For instance, implementing pressure relief systems (or replacing legacy systems of any kind) in a commercial chiller plant to prevent equipment failure and ensuring safety standards are met.

Compliance and Safety

Speaking of ensuring standards are met, Cross Company is also able to ensure EPA compliance in emission management. Cross provides the necessary instrumentation for power generation systems, such as steam turbines, to ensure operations meet regulatory standards. This can be as simple as installing emissions monitoring equipment in a college’s boiler system to maintain EPA compliance or as complex as reoptimizing an entire cooling system.

Safety is paramount in industrial operations. That’s why it’s so critical to invest in comprehensive systems like gas detection for mitigating risks and ensuring compliance. Cross Company offers safety equipment, including gas detection devices, to safeguard personnel and operations while meeting safety standards.

Controls and Migrations

Many operations will continue on with the same control system long after obsolescence. While this may seem like a cost-saving measure, it’s just creating a bigger problem down the road. When you partner with Cross Company, we develop a rough timeline for legacy control system migration, ensuring that everything is moving according to plan and the downtime can be scheduled and accounted for.

Did you know… Cross Company is an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan). Our ESOP started in 1979 and as of 2006, we are 100% employee-owned! Learn more about our ESOP and how that benefits both team members and our customers.
Did you know... the precision measurement group at Cross was founded in 1939 by our current CEO's grandfather, Jim King. That's a whole lot of calibration!
Did you know... A fingerprint weighs about 50 micrograms. We know, we weighed it! The residue left from a finger can actually make a difference in weight results which is why we wear gloves when we calibrate weights. For reference, a sheet of paper is about 4.5 grams, that’s 4.5 million micrograms.
