England’s Hughes Safety Showers is Europe’s largest manufacturer of emergency safety showers, eyebaths, and decontamination equipment and they’re a big deal in the United States as well! Working with Hughes will ensure that you are doing your part to protect your employees and to raise safety standards throughout the world!
Cross Company has partnered with Hughes Safety Showers to better provide the Southeastern United States with the proper and standardized emergency showers, eyebaths, and decontamination equipment. Your employees are your company’s heart and mind, so ensure their protection with Hughes!
Your facility’s emergency wash stations must conform to the American National Standard ANSI Z 358.1 2009, which is also the internationally recognized World Standard regarding the design parameters for emergency safety showers and eyewash fountains.
The Hughes 1600/2000 Liter Tank Emergency Showers
While the Hughes product line is quite extensive, their last tank showers maxed out at 1200 liters – or 320 gallons. Tank showers are a different category of showers because they can function as stand-alone fixtures that are not connected to a water source. Most emergency showers and eyewash stations are connected to the facility’s water system, and while ideal, this is not always possible.
Hughes tank showers provide enough water to meet ANSI regulations and, more importantly, thoroughly decontaminate an employee. The new 1600 and 2000 liter models will now solve a few of the compromises that put the smaller showers closer to the edge of ANSI compliance, namely exceeding a flow rate of 20 gallons per minute for 15 minutes. An additional compliance bonus of the larger tanks is that the extra volume will allow for routine weekly testing.
Extended Tank Shower Range
Both the 1600 and the 2000 liter units share the lower framework and options of the 1200 liter unit, but the width of the tank cabin has been extended to fit this increased water volume. For visual comparison, view below
For easy maintenance, the overhang panels detach to allow for access to the heater and valves. Here, you can better read dials, make adjustments and – if need be – remove the heater by sliding it downward and out.
Lift the top eyebolts on the roof of the tank and raise the lid for inspection or repair. The lid holds at 60 degrees, like a car hood, which makes the whole process more fluid and convenient.
The new, larger models share common internal components with the smaller units, so there is no additional cost of ownership associated with switching to the larger emergency wash showers.
Additional Features of the 1600 and 2000 liter Tanks
- The eyebath valves are accessible through the overhang side covers
- The lid has four sloping sides, as opposed to the 1200 liter’s two
- The lid and access hatch are insulated to 40mm – identical to the rest of the tank – to minimize the risk of cold spots
