Rotomation Application Note: Custom rotator for filling and capping for packaging OEM 2

Cross partner Rotomation recently worked with a packaging machinery OEM to create a custom rotating gripper for their machine to fill bottles of toilet bowl cleaning fluid.  The OEM focuses on rotary machine designs for efficient, multi-step processing, prioritizing hygienic design and robust materials.  While they offer standard machines, the unique challenges of the bottle shape and its caustic contents required reorienting the bottle by 45 degrees to align the nozzle upwards, enabling standard filling and capping in an unconventional scenario.

The unique bottle shap had an irregular neck design to accomodate it while maintaining efficiency.  In addition, the corrosive nature of the cleaning material was a threat to standard machinery components.  To solve the problem, Rotomation engineered a specialized combination gripper-rotator which featured a parallel gripper design and adapted their standard rack-and-pinion concept to facilitate and to seal the shaft.  It was also machined out of 316 stainless steel to avoid being destroyed by the media.  Click here to read the full case study.
