In my experience working as a hydraulic salesman, I have noticed that I spend a lot of time answering emails on product descriptions or model code breakdowns. While I enjoy helping the customer with these requests, there is a very powerful tool available at their fingertips that not many people are aware of. It’s called Danfoss Powersource, and through this blog I am going to define what it is and how to use it.

Getting to Powersource
First off, you need to know how to get there. With technology being more and more advanced in today’s world, nearly everyone has internet at their fingertips, whether it’s using a cell phone or their laptop. In your web browser (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Modzilla Firefox, ect.) you need to go to the following address: ( www.EatonPowersource.com ). There you will find a window looking like this (see main image above) and this is where the magic happens!
Once You’ve Made It
As you can see by the tabs, we have a couple options here:
- Products
- Markets
- Tools
- and Where To Buy
Also, there is a small search box at the top right of the window. The search box is probably the most useful tool as you can basically type any model code or Part Number (PN) and if will recognize it. Let me show you an example. Say you buy a 104-1228-006 Char-Lynn hydraulic motor (pretty common) and you want to see exactly what the specs are. Simply go to the search box and type it in!
As you can see it shows up in the motors category, which is correct. Click on it! Now you see another view which shows you the model code as well as a “Modify Configuration”. This is where the fun starts! First let’s look at what exactly a 104-1228-006 motor is. Click on the PN and it will pull up another window like this:
Look what we have here! It shows us that we have a 2-bolt SAE A mount with 1.25” straight keyed shaft and a displacement of 24cir. It also shows port options and positions as well. This is a great tool to see exactly what you have and all its features – but we can’t stop there! You can even download 3D .STP files if available, which in this case there is. This is a huge benefit as more and more design work is done in 3D modeling and the development for these models is becoming more and more of a requirement during the design process.
Modifying An Existing Part Number
Let’s say we are buying a Eaton Char-Lynn 104-1228-006, but instead of a 1.25” keyed shaft we want a splined shaft. We’ll have to modify the existing PN, which is probably the most significant feature of Danfoss Powersource. We previously mentioned the “Modify Configuration” option, but now let’s click on it! You will be taken to a window that looks like this.
By scrolling down you can see that “Sequence 5” is where we determine the output shaft. As you can see the “02” output shaft is chosen. Let’s say instead that we would like the same motor with the 1.25” 14T splined shaft, or the “04” option. Click on the “04” and notice that it changes your model code up top.
This new model code is complete and ready to be used for ordering, if this motor has been sold before, which in our case it has, you can see on the top right that we can “view 1 results”. Click on this!
This provides us with the correct PN for ordering and getting pricing from vendors for the 104-1228-006 motor only with a 14T splined output shaft, which in this case is a 104-1229-006. We can proceed to click on the PN and get a model code breakdown as well as 3D models as shown earlier in this blog. If the customer uses Powersource and can provide this information, the work is done and your vendors can get you your pricing and lead time much more quickly and efficiently. This helps you as a customer because now you can get an answer quickly and move on to another task. Time is money!
Conclusion
I hope that I was able to provide a helpful tutorial on how to implement EATON Powersource for your everyday use. It’s a free and powerful tool that can really streamline your process – for pumps, motors, and valves! It not only helps simplify the breaking down the model code, but also changing an existing PN that you already use. This can save you both time and money, plus it can expedite the design process as you can get the information you need more quickly so that you can move on to other parts of the system.
