Cross Company Electric Power Takeoff Unit
Electric over Hydraulic 48-volt ePTO Solutions
Cross Mobile Systems Integration (Cross MSI) would like to introduce our standard off the shelf products of high efficiency, permanent magnet AC (PMAC) 48-volt motors coupled with ultra-quiet helical gear pumps. Based on our own electrification application experience, we are offering 9 different packaged pump/motor solutions that cover the vast majority of low voltage pressure and flow use cases.
Benefits of an ePTO
At Cross, we offer a range of top-quality mobile machine electrification parts and services. Paired with the expertise our OEM and other equipment manufacturer partners need to succeed, our team can help determine the best components for your project. Take a look at some of our highlighted benefits of utilizing an electric PTO.
Improved efficiency
Replacing an existing internal combustion engine prime mover with a PMAC motor can increase efficiency from roughly 35% to 90% or more. This decreases your overall fuel costs, reduces heat generation, and by maximizing your motor efficiency, you extend battery life.
Improved machine control
By utilizing a PMAC motor, you have the ability to control your hydraulic system utilizing motor speed and torque. This can be changed almost instantaneously based upon hydraulic function demand.
Safety
By utilizing a quiet helical gear pump and an electric motor, you dramatically reduce the noise levels on and around your machine. This allows for easier communications between machine operators and bystanders.
Reduced Maintenance
Totally eliminates the need for the servicing of a combustion engine, and replaces this with a low to no maintenance electric motor.
Use of existing hydraulic system/ease of moving to electrification
As a first step towards complete machine electrification, this can perhaps be a great first step by allowing the use of the existing hydraulic system less pump. This will give you and your customers experience in working with electrification systems without the expense of a completely redesigned machine.

Motor Inverters
Why is an inverter needed with our ePTO solution? Battery voltage will be DC, and our high efficiency PMAC motors are AC. The motor inverter converts the battery DC voltage to AC, and in turn can be used to precisely control motor speed and torque. Cross supplied inverters will be tuned and characterized based on your motor/pump selection.
Our 48V motor inverters come in 3 standard sizes based on their continuous and peak amperage ratings. These units incorporate a flat metal air cooled heat sink for system heat dissipation, 35 pin signal connector, and internally threaded power terminals.
Our offering includes:
- M113003-P – Lower power inverter with loaded epf file
- M113004-P – Medium power inverter with loaded epf file
- M113005-P – High power inverter with loaded epf file
