Vehicle Control Systems Prototyping

Custom-Built Control Systems

Bridge the gap between design and build.

To many on and off-highway vehicle OEMs, Cross Company is an extension of their engineering department. And we can be an extension of yours, too.

Our application engineers and designers are specialists in providing custom hydraulic system designs and vehicle control systems (with prototyping) for mobile work equipment. This also includes many custom designed components and sub-assemblies that help simplify the plumbing, wiring, and assembly of your machines.

As a heavy-duty mobile vehicle control system design company, we work with a wide variety of OEMs and other industrial manufacturers. Which means that we understand the needs of a variety of industries. The design and implementation of a prototype control system for an agricultural vehicle may be very different from a system for a heavy construction vehicle. That’s something we understand and appreciate.

In-House Machine Prototyping

Cross offers prototyping services for a range of mobile work systems. Whether you are in need of testing a hydraulic system design, electronic control system design or any range of systems in between, our team of engineers can help you determine the best build solution.

Our experts will work with you to find the optimal design, best components, and ideal layout for your machine. We’ve learned that when working with mobile machinery, these considerations are crucial.

Real-Time Vehicle Prototyping Services

We offer an In-House Prototyping service to get you started. It all starts when you deliver your machine to our Mobile Technology Center in Greensboro, NC. There, we develop a custom hydraulic system design and controls prototype, allowing your machine to perform and operate to your (and your customer’s) satisfaction.

Mobile systems prototype development is important. Nowhere is this more true than with OEMs. Mobile vehicle prototyping ensures all machine requirements are met prior to the production stage.

We’ve seen what happens when the prototyping phase is bypassed. Without a prototype, production machines can get out into the marketplace and potentially need field correction. This can get costly, not only for the OEM, but also for the end user. Business is difficult enough without having to deal with errors that could have been caught in a vehicle or control system prototyping testing phase.

The demands of end-users and markets today require manufacturers to be flexible and able to meet a variety of use-cases. With that in mind, a work vehicle controls system needs to be able to meet those needs. They need to be adaptable, durable, and reusable.

In-House Controls and Vehicle Prototyping

A complete mobile systems integration project may include hydraulic system design, electronic control system design, or even vehicle electrification.

For these larger projects, Cross offers in-house mobile vehicle prototyping at our Mobile Technology Center in Greensboro, NC. Our team can outfit your equipment and then provide real world testing at our facility before returning it for your own field testing.

Our Mobile Technology Center is outfitted with a 4000 square foot interior working area, fully dedicated to mobile vehicle systems integration projects and able to accommodate larger builds. In addition, we offer secure exterior storage for completed projects, giving you the flexibility to send and receive projects at your convenience.

Remote Integration and Testing

The entire mobile vehicle prototyping for control systems process doesn’t have to take place at our Mobile Technology Center, though. Some components such as hose kits, custom control panels, and custom reservoirs allow for off-site prototyping.

Our team is capable of working with you remotely. And with 3D CAD models, we can even virtually develop a prototype for your equipment. Without the need to travel or transport your entire project.

In a demanding modern market, remote vehicle control systems prototyping can effectively reduce the time and cost of development. While keeping you up and running and continuing to service end-users.

Remote system prototyping also enables your team to continue work on other aspects of the build, without needing to halt progress while certain components are developed. Once a prototype is designed, our team can build a physical version and send it to your facility to be implemented into your overall build.

Frequently Asked Questions

Mobile vehicle control system prototyping is a form of development wherein a prototype is constructed taking into account customer specifications, performance requirements, and vehicle construction. The prototype control system is then reworked as necessary until the optimal outcome is achieved.

Vehicle control system prototyping is optimal in a variety of cases. It gives manufacturers the ability to not only see the prototype in action, but also provides a path to integrate new models into production while minimizing downtime. During the prototyping process, they may also discover previously unknown cost-saving and efficiency-boosting methods.

Any industry working with heavy machines or vehicles can benefit from control systems prototyping. Industries such as Agriculture, Mining, Construction, Municipal, and even Commercial may see an increase in efficiency and performance.
