Industrial Motor Inverters/Controllers

Inverters for Low-Voltage Mobile Machine Applications

Reliable motor control is essential in many mobile machinery applications, with inverters playing a pivotal role in allowing for smooth, precise performance. At Cross Company and our Mobile Systems Integration Group, we work directly with you to select, integrate, and optimize your motor inverters for speed, torque, or power generation. With programmed features like speed ramping upon start up/shut down, and torque limiting, we can provide you with the optimal product to meet your job function needs.

Working with Cross Company also ensures that your mobile machine is optimized for job function along with any other necessary considerations (such as safety requirements, weight or noise limits, etc). While providing seamless operation and enhanced functionality, this ensures that your machine meets yours and your customers requirements.

Motor Inverters For Your Application

Inverters are necessary for converting DC bus power to the AC power needed for the AC motors commonly used in mobile work systems. They are commonly used because they are the most efficient motors in the market which is critical in on and off-road electrification projects because of the cost of lithium batteries. These inverters also provide advanced features such as precise speed, torque, and power controls.

We also utilize inverters with CAN-based communication protocols for flexible and reliable machine performance. We believe that when you partner with Cross Company, you’re getting more than just a single component. We look at the entire machine and how each of the components work together to efficiently perform the desired job function.

Core Capabilities of Motor Inverters

Speed Control

Speed is a primary consideration when considering inverter selection. Set engine speeds can be inherently limiting. Having the ability to change and manipulate the speed of the electric motor is probably the single most important feature that these inverters provide. This allows us to have precise control over your machine job function, and at the most efficient setting possible

Torque Control

Other applications may require torque adjustments as opposed to speed control. For mobile machinery requiring high levels of torque control, the inverter can send torque-specific commands. Again, this allows us to have precise control over your machine job function

Generator Mode

When a motor needs to operate as a generator (such as for regenerative braking), the inverter manages the AC signal and converts it to DC. This allows the motor/generator to put DC power back into the battery pack, therefore recharging the battery.

Selecting the Right Inverter For Your Project

Single-Motor vs Dual-Motor Inverters – The majority of inverters are designed for single-motor applications, but dual-inverter configurations are also available for machines requiring control of two motors simultaneously (for example, one for job function and one for vehicle operation). Dual-motor inverters are typically used when the two motors are located in close proximity to each other. This can allow for some overall machine cost savings.

Heat Dissipation Options – Inverters also come with varying cooling solutions, such as finned heat sinks or liquid cooling options. These are designed to suit differing thermal demands based on the specific application requirements and are taken into account by our team.

Components For Every Part of Your Electrification Project

Cross Mobile Systems Integration works with off-highway OEMs to improve their machine design and performance. Whether it’s hydraulics, electronics, controls or a full overhaul from ICE to electrified, Cross’s team of engineers works as an extension of our customer’s engineering team. We take the time to understand the unique requirements of each piece of mobile equipment and then design, prototype and build an optimized system for the machine.
