Propeller Flow Meters

Cross Propeller Flow Meters

Propeller flow meters have a rotating blade, suspended by a single bearing, which faces into the flow. The inherent mechanical energy of the flow rotates the propeller and these rotations are interpreted as flow by a totalizer usually mounted on the meter. Because it uses the flow’s energy to operate, propeller meters do not require a power source.

A propeller flow meter measures both instant flow rate and the total flow over time. However, it should not be used in low flow situations because the resistance of the bearings interferes with the measurement of the flow. It also should not be used at high velocity because this can cause damage or wear to the propeller and bearings, resulting in inaccurate results.

If these sound like flow meter features that would benefit your operation, we’d love to hear from you. Contact Cross Company Process Solutions to speak with one of our process engineers, application specialists, or world-class support team today.

Reliable Flow Measurement for Industrial Applications

Propeller flow meters (also known as axial flow meters or paddlewheel flow meters) are used widely in industrial processes to measure flow in closed pipes. That makes propeller meters particularly suited for applications involving clean and low-viscosity fluids.

There are a wide range of industrial applications suitable for propeller flow meters. For instance, when it comes to water treatment and distribution, propeller flow meters are used to monitor water flow rates and to ensure efficient distribution. They help manage water resources, optimize water treatment processes, and identify leaks or water distribution discrepancies. In chemical processing, propeller meters are used to measure the flow of chemicals, ensuring precise mixing or dosing. This maintains product quality and minimizes waste.

No matter your individual industry, Cross Process Solutions can work directly with you to provide the right flow meter for your application.

Benefits Propeller Flow Meters

There are many benefits to utilizing propeller flow meters for process applications from Cross Company. Some of those benefits include

Simple and Efficient Design

Propeller flow meters have a straightforward design consisting of a rotating propeller placed in the flow stream. As fluid passes through, the propeller spins proportionally to the flow rate.

High Accuracy and Repeatability

With proper calibration and installation, propeller flow meters offer high accuracy and repeatability in flow measurements. This enables effective process control and optimization.

Easy Installation and Maintenance

The simplicity of the propeller flow meter design translates to easy installation and minimal maintenance requirements. They can be mounted in-line, and their design ensures durability
