A Universal Robot, as a Collaborative Robot, is inherently safer to operate around people than an industrial robot from the past. However, just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should. There are plenty of scenarios in which safety guarding should be implemented. This includes, but is not limited to situations in which the handled material or the end-of-arm tooling is dangerous.
Josh Westmoreland demonstrates the implmentation of an area scanner combined with a Universal Robot. Additional instructions on how to pair the Omron OS32C with the Universal Robots are available.
