Over the years, OEMs have devised all sorts of methods for simplifying the operation of their machines. Some of the early attempts included mechanical joysticks with all sorts of levers, cables, rods, Heim joints, etc. These were terribly complicated to engineer, install, and maintain. Often, these types of joysticks also required high force inputs by the operator which increased operator fatigue. Plus, as they began to wear, the control characteristics and amount of force needed to actuate them changed.
