Three big issues with the current 7″ mobile vehicle displays on the market are the size of graphics you can use on a page, the amount of graphics you can put on any given page, and the size of the font that can be used for text. This limits the readability for an operator and can reduce the appeal for your machine. The new ifm 12″ display solves these challenges and, along with having higher resolution graphics (1024 x 768 pixels), it may be an upgrade for your vehicle.
Two key features include a screen that is optically bonded and a rugged IP67 rated die cast aluminum housing. The optical bonding gives you better direct sunlight readability as well as eliminates condensation as an issue. The IP67 rating and metal housing makes this product a good choice whether you are mounting the unit in-cab or directly on the body of your vehicle.
Additional features include the following:
- 4 CAN ports – These can be used as either CANopen or SAE J1939 protocol for connection to multiple CAN networks.
- 2 analog video inputs – For use with devices such as back-up cameras.
- 1 USB connection – This can be used for data logging and for downloading new software to the display.
- 1 Ethernet connection – On a vehicle, you may have other components that utilize this communication platform. This provides connectivity to those other devices.
With 1GB of internal mass storage, this 12″ display from ifm provides you with the ability to store operating manuals and troubleshooting guides right on your machine. This can greatly increase the serviceability of your vehicle.
As I discuss in my video, this display is freely programmable, utilizing the Codesys programming software. With the 13 back-lit function keys, the navigation key with push-button, and our software programmers at Cross Company, we can completely customize this display to fit your vehicle needs.
